The Chakras – Throat Chakra
Throat Chakra
In Sanskrit, the Vishuddha is defined as “purification.”
Vishuddha is associatiated with the thyroid and parathyroid glands. This chakra is aligned along the sushumna nadi, at the bottom of the throat complex. When you are speaking your “why” you can feel energy in the throat start to surge.
Associated with the color blue, it is the representative for communication and expression.
Anodea Judith system states that activation takes place from 8 to 12 years. The Hindu say years 28-35, when we are motivated by the expression of divine wisdom and higher knowledge.
Thusly, the throat chakra impacts emotional honesty, your authentic life, the quality of your relationships, ability to be heard, awareness of your needs, (and expressing them.) The life lesson for this center revolve around the right to speak. Learning how to express ones self and beliefs. Learning how to trust.
When your throat chakra is healthy, you will excel at getting yourself heard and understood. You will be brutally honest, but with tact. You can express your needs, your beliefs, and ideas clearly and succinctly.
When it is locked, you might experience bouts of repressed anger, silence, criticism, saying untruths. Physical ailments may be athsma, bronchitis, mouth ulcers, thyroid dysfunction, ear infections, hearing issues, mouth problems, teeth and gum diseases, tinnitis, tonsellitus, and joint issues.
Things That Lock The System
Not being able to express yourself, not trusting others, disorganization, negative beliefs, gossiping, low vibrational communication, pollution, smoking, and alcohol.
How To Unlock Throat Chakra
Stretches
Great orators and singers alike have rituals they perform before the show. They include vocal warm ups, proper tongue placement, and stretches (some re-diculous faces!)
Singing and Resonant Tuning
Remember, this instrument is all about the voice. Singing sends beautiful vibrations to this center. Singing while in the shower, in the car, and karaoke strengthen the vocal chords, and clear out unused energy. Even if you aren’t the greatest singer.
Resonant tuning can be chanting “om” or didgeridoo, or any other kind of deep resonance. This vibrates the organs and molecules in the body, activating your internal energy
Reading Aloud
Keeping in the frame, another way to cleanse and activate this center is to read aloud. Poetry, or chanting mantras aloud, bible verses, reading to the kids, whatever feather tickles.
Piezoelectric Therapy
some morning meditation or tai chi at the beach is one of the most blissful experiences you can get for free.
Healthy Communication
To move back into alignment, we need to identify where we are holding ourselves back and why. You might consider a brief timeline review and identify spaces in time where we might have felt ridiculed, negatively recieved, and even dismissed, and heal those interactions. We need to accept the fact that expectations of being heard unconditionally takes away from our ability to appreciate life by placing a false judgement.
(The false judgement being that we are so important everyone needs to listen all the time, and treat us the exact way we want. The Universe is free will, and they can choose not to listen, and even be a dick. Therefore – we must accept that and realise others can, do, and have – feel the same way we do, so we must heal all parties.)
After healing these little wounds, we can now express ourselves more freely. It is important to remember that the voice is to be of a service to other’s, not just to speak “our truth.” The more non-egoic it becomes, the more the throat chakra opens.
Speaking to a loved one about your beliefs, a partner about your boundaries, or having a deep conversation will keep the throat chakra healthy and strong.
